Renovation Two - actual demand (in regard to pre-Congress discussion in the CPV and society)

Abstract

The paper is devoted to some problems which were in the focus of the public attention during the preparation of the CPV XII-th Congress in January 2016. In this period there was a broad and open discussion among the political elite and intellectuals of the country, in all internet editions on the destiny of the country, the role and future development of the CPV itself in new conditions, on the democratization in the party and state. Many statements and political figures, different establishments, scientific centers and universities, public organization took part in this discussion. Many veterans - members of the party, including some former responsible functionaries, were particularly active in this discussion.

70 years of construction and improvement of the Vietnamese constitution aimed at human and civil rights protection

Abstract

The author reveals the contents of the process of public policy and legal decisions aimed at improving human and civil rights in Vietnam. For 70 years, as the steady strengthening of the country, the Constitution was bom in 1946, 1959, 1980, 1992 and finally 2013. It stresses the importance in the history of the country's first democratic Constitution of 1946 progressive even in relation to the constitutions of a number of European countries, as defined by the equality of men and women. During the construction of the constitutional human and civil rights is constantly expanding, and now Vietnam's Constitution adequately complies with international constitutional standards and at the same time meets the national identity of Vietnam.

Emerging Societal Strata in Contemporary Vietnam: Group's Interests and Political Participation

Abstract

Renovation policies (doi moi) along with global development trends of the early 21st century have brought about significant change in the social structure of Vietnam. This article sets to outline three emerging social groups in Vietnam that are currently in the process of shaping their own political identity, namely civil servants, private SMEs and urban middle class. These groups have appeared or gained influence as a result of market reforms and now have their own expectations from the ruling CPV. The key issue, however, is how exactly these group interests translate into actual policies, what are the channels and forms thereof.

Socio-economic achievements of Vietnam: 70 years after the August Revolution

Abstract

The author examines the results of socio-economic development of an independent Vietnam since 1946. The emphasis is placed on the Renovation period, especially after 1996. The paper provides periodization, statistics of growth, other economic information for each step, brief information on education, science, culture, people's wellbeing. It summarizes the outcomes and achievements of 1986-2014, describes the main documents and programs adopted by the CPV and implemented by the state under transition. Along with successes in socio-economic reconstruction the author reveals some constraints and challenges facing the country today. These include the problems of functioning and institutional weaknesses of the market economy with socialist orientation, the shortcomings of state economic management. He concludes that there is not yet a clear understanding in Vietnam of what it is and how this system must evolve, and that current reality requires theoretical explanation.

The development of EU and Vietnam bilateral relations in the XXI century

Abstract

The paper describes the institutionalization process of bilateral relations between Vietnam and the European Union. It points to favorable conditions including: doi moi reform process in Vietnam as well as the end of the Cold War antagonism. The rise of mutual interest in the face of growing position of East Asia and Vietnam's stable economic growth resuited in signing Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the EU and then enabled Vietnam and the EU to reach new level of cooperation, such as signing of free trade agreement, which according to experts may contribute to securing Vietnam's economic growth and facilitate its integration process with the global economy. In the same times the article includes the analysis of perspectives of future cooperation, with particular attention to barriers in the process. But the main thesis of the article is that despite various real and potential problems, the expansion of EU-Vietnam cooperation will continue. It is favorable for both sides.

The fate of the Korean and Vietnamese nations: 70 years after liberation

Abstract

Since independence in 1945 Korea and Vietnam were divided each into two States. The paper examines the reasons for the continuing disunity of Korea compairing to reunification of Vietnam. One of the reasons for maintaining Korea's division is that many Korean politicians searched for the assistance of powerful foreign state and were unable to accept compromise aiming at national unity. The defeat of North Korea in economic competition with South Korea had played its role too. The repression against leftist and left-of-center forces in the South, domestic politicians struggle in the North led to the destruction of the unified Communist organization. As a result the country missed a possibility to erect single national organization for national unification on the Korean Peninsula.

The path of Operation Meigo - decision-making process of the Japanese armed coup in Indochina on 9 March 1945

Abstract

This paper is aimed to analyze the history how the Japanese leadership took a decision to assault the French colonial regime in Indochina on 9 March 1945. As a result of the Japanese coup d'etat, the French colonial administration was overthrown. The author assesses the general strategic situation that lead to this decision. Due to the still worsening situation at the front, French Indochina was no more a remote rear for the Japanese imperial troops combating against the forces of the Coalition, but it became instead a potential combat zone. At the same time, Japanese were preoccupied by the development of French clandestine resistance movement in French Indochina, as well as by the evolution of the attitude of the French colonial government in Indochina.

The core civilization development forms, geopolitics and their projection upon Vietnam

Abstract

On the basis of methodology and writings of Russian and foreign scholars on civilization systems and the geopolitics the author compares Maritime culture and the marine civilization with their onshore equivalents. He outlines the differences and the points of confrontation between these cultures and civilizations, among others through the standpoint of modern geopolitical concepts. The classification of civilizations of Russia, China and the Western powers made in the paper helps to consider their political options and civilizational choice, place of Vietnam in the frame of this dichotomy, and specify the significance to him of the author's hypotheses and conclusions.

Symbolism in Vietnam: Hypotheses of development

Abstract

The author examines the symbolism as a cultural and historical tradition of Vietnamese life in terms of its impact on the nation-building, modernization and international integration policy. This practice is based primarily on centuries of national experience of collective economic activities, poverty and artistic creation in the spirit of ancestor veneration. The author attempts to discover the origins of the myth of the birth of the Vietnamese people. He analyses symbolism in the European sense too, meaning that many processes are seen as communication and when Buddhism and Marxism are integrated of in the form of Ho Chi Minh's worship. The paper is accompanied with illustrations that express character and tendencies of transformation of inward cultural space of Vietnam.

Le Van Nhan -Vietnamese poet with Russian soul

Abstract

The paper discusses the literary works of Le Van Nhan - one of the representatives of contemporary Russian language literature in Vietnam. He is characterized as a scientist-philologist, bilingual poet, and defender of Russian language, teacher and translator, people's diplomat. The author highly appreciates his activities as the Secretary-General of the Central Board of the Vietnam-Russian Association for friendship. The paper overviews for the first time the period when Le Van Nhan was invited to the Oriental Institute of the Far Eastern state University (Vladivostok) to teach Vietnamese language, where he also was engaged in written translations from Vietnamese to Russian.

Folklore in Nguyen Huy Thiep's short stories

Abstract

As a result of the Doi moi policy proclaimed by the Vietnamese Commmunist Party in 1986 the renovation of the Vietnamese literature also began. The writer Nguyen Huy Thiep became its symbol. In his short stories he created a unique literary world for which folklorizm is characteristic, it means that the writer often uses folk genres (songs, legends, myths, fairy tales, etc.) or their specific attributes. The place and role of folklore in Nguyen Huy Thiep's short stories are in the focus of this paper.

Modern cinema of Vietnam: results and trends of development

Abstract

The paperr analyzes the situation in Vietnamese cinema during the last decade. Today Vietnam film industry has been erected and successfully functioned meeting the artistic and aesthetic needs of Vietnamese audiences. The film industry of the country and first of all film production and film distribution are carried out by both public and private studios. The production of feature films and documentaries is also executed on television and departmental studios. Vietnamese films take part in intemational film festivals, usually in the regional ones. The author paid special attention to the activities of private film studios and their production.

Underworld and mysterious phenomena in a number of short stories during renewal period

Abstract

The paper overwiwes the literature titels belonging to the short stories created by some writers like Bo Thi Hao, I Ban, Tuu Minh Son. It is shown that in recent years mystical phenomena occupied more space in the country's spiritual life. Vietnamese writers during the renovation period not only reproduce the historical themes and events of ancient times, but also pay particular attention to discover the inner world of human character, his mental image and feelings, passing through the joys and sorrows, experiencing love and hatred, who suffered the blows of fate in era of market economy rapid development. The author concludes that this kind of literature succeded to restore in full ample the mystical elements and create a harmonious combination between the material world and the spiritual, faith and hope in the coming wonders.

The Muong Ritual Narratives: from «Superstitions» to Intangible Cultural Heritage

Abstract

The paper deals with ritual narratives of the Muong and shifts in their interpretation in Vietnam during the period from the middle of 50s of the 20th century up to the middle of the second decade of the 21st century. The author discusses narratives of various kinds, reveals their conceptual features and performance standards, as well as transformations in narratives evaluation - from considering them as «superstitions» to the recognition as a national heritage. The main attention has focused on the epic cycle of «The Birth of the Earth and Water» which is considered as a very important part of the Muong folk culture from a historical and cultural point of view.
