The Vietnam War is the longest war of the United States, the strategic goal of which was the long-term division of Vietnam and the transformation of South Vietnam into a separate pro-American state as a part of the "free world", opposing the "communist camp". As a result, the United States had to retreat before the aspiration of the Vietnamese people for national independence and reunification. The turning point to the de-escalation of the American presence in Vietnam was the Tet Mau Than 1968 General Offensive and Uprising, according to the name of the lunar New Year. This article gives an analysis of the US strategy during the Vietnam War at various stages and shows the impact of the Tet offensive on this strategy. Much attention is paid to the impact of the Tet Mau Than 1968 General Offensive and Uprising on the minds of the US political circles and US society as a whole.
Вьетнамская война - самая продолжительная война США, стратегической целью которой являлось долгосрочное разделение Вьетнама и превращение его южной половины в отдельное проамериканское государство, часть «свободного мира», противостоящую «коммунистическому лагерю». В результате Соединённым Штатам пришлось отступить перед стремлением вьетнамского народа к национальной независимости и воссоединению. Поворотным моментом к деэскалации американского присутствия во Вьетнаме стали генеральное наступление и восстание НФОЮВ 1968 г. - в Новый год по лунному календарю (Тэт Мау Тхан). В статье дан анализ стратегии США в войне во Вьетнаме на различных этапах и показано воздействие Новогоднего наступления на эту стратегию. Большое внимание уделено влиянию наступления и восстания 1968 г. на настроения властной элиты США и американское общество в целом.
